PFW Bingo Challenge Street Stall

PFW volunteers have been on the High Street today handing out Bingo Challenge cards, and talking to residents about our Water Fountain petition. Despite a wet and cold morning, plenty of people stopped to tell us how important the issue of single-use plastic waste was to them.

The issue of a water fountain was almost unanimous – an easy step to help people avoid buying unnecessary plastic water bottles, by making water available to visitors to the city centre. The petition will go live soon, and we invite you all to sign it, asking Winchester City Council to provide a water fountain in the city centre.

We also handed out our Bingo Challenge cards, giving suggestions for reducing your single-use plastic usage. Colour in the ones you try, and share on social media with #PFWBingoChallenge. Download your #PFWBingoChallenge card here.

Winchester Litter Pickers also joined us for a city centre blitz – despite the city centre location, which you would expect to be fairly well cleaned, they found 7 bags of rubbish while we were there! Not all of it was plastic, but a large proportion was. Plastic litter in particular, appears to be light and easily blown away.

Plastic Free Winchester launches with Community Litter Pick at Compton Lock

We had a great time litter picking at Compton Lock – showing just how much plastic and other trash gets into our environment. The use of excess packaging really adds to the problem.

Thanks to all who came along, and Winchester City Council for providing the equipment.
